Erica Kirk Discusses Grief and Parenting After Losing Charlie Kirk

Erica Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative figure and founder of TPUSA, recently shared her struggles with loss and the challenge of helping her young children grasp their father’s death.

In a heartfelt conversation on “Jesse Watters Prime Time,” Erica detailed how her daughter, Faith, is processing her grief. She mentioned her approach to explaining Charlie’s death to their kids, aiming for sensitivity.

Erica reflected on the hardest part of her day—nighttime. “It’s always the night,” she shared. “I talk about my day with them, but being alone in bed, trying to give a goodnight kiss that isn’t there, is really tough.”

She recalled how easy it can be to overlook the small moments in life. “Any widow knows what that means. You take so much for granted,” Erica noted.

Charlie Kirk was tragically killed earlier this year at 31, a shocking event that drew national attention. He is survived by Erica and their two young children—a daughter born in August 2022 and a son born in May 2024.

As a single mother, Erica leans on the faith that shaped their family, guiding her parenting decisions.

During the interview, Jesse Watters asked about her attempts to explain Charlie’s absence. “I told my kids that Charlie went on a work trip with Jesus. Are they still asking, ‘Where’s Daddy?'”

Erica continued, recounting the touch of her daughter’s innocence. “I explained, ‘If you want to talk to Daddy, just look up at the sky.’ And she asked if he was in another house, to which I replied, ‘Yes, he’s building a house for us.’ She seemed to grasp it, saying, ‘I think I can go someday.’”

Erica is now the CEO of Turning Point USA and is committed to continuing her husband’s legacy, pledging not to let his voice fade away.
