Escaped emu creates traffic disruption in California as officers pursue bird

An emu on the loose caused quite a stir in a California neighborhood, as it zipped through traffic, prompting sheriff’s deputies to step in as makeshift bird wranglers.

Santa Cruz County deputies were seen chasing after the fast bird shortly after another emu had already stirred up trouble in the area. It seems like a bit of an emu epidemic, doesn’t it?

“You know, when we say no two days are the same in this line of work, we really mean it. Apparently, ‘keeping the peace’ sometimes means keeping an emu from darting into traffic until its owner can show up,” shared the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

They also insisted that this bird was not the same one that caused a ruckus in a previous incident, noting, “Different bird, same agenda: wreak havoc.”

This latest escapade unfolded just days after California Highway Patrol officers had to handle a separate emu situation, which led to numerous calls from worried drivers. Thankfully, the owner of the current runaway arrived on the scene quickly, allowing the deputies to safely gather their feathery friend. A big thanks went out to everyone who reached out for help during this unusual event!

Users on social media took the opportunity to poke fun at the developing situation. One user joked that the emu was ensuring its owner had car insurance, while another quipped about the bird auditioning for a commercial.

Interestingly, this fun twist brought to mind the Liberty Mutual advertisements featuring a character named LiMu Emu, which have been around since 2019 with their catchy slogan about only paying for what you need. I mean, who knew emus could spark such creativity on the internet?
