The Los Angeles Lakers waived Dervin Ham on Friday for the second time in two seasons, leading to speculation that LeBron James’ fingerprints were on the move.
This isn’t the first time such thoughts have been spread about James and his former head coach, but one ESPN host has had enough.
ESPN’s Michael Wilbon admitted on Friday’s “Excuse the Interruption” that he may be biased because of his personal relationship with Hamm, but his point was salient.

“You know what? I’m angry. I’ve known Durvin Ham for a long time.” Wilbon started. “He’s a great guy and a very good coach. Last year we led a team that didn’t do anything and we missed the playoffs, but last year we went to the conference finals with him and everyone praised him.” — including LeBron and Anthony Davis. And now, suddenly, two people are accusing him…
“Let me just say this: If you [LeBron] You want to be the GOAT and tell everyone you’re the greatest player of all time, and then you want to take responsibility. do it! “
Mr. Wilbon said Mr. James has carried out some responsibility, but “almost not enough.”

“That’s what you would do if you were the GOAT. Don’t mysteriously or insidiously blame this on Darvin Ham. I think the biggest issue with anyone in a Lakers uniform is Darvin Ham. I don’t want to hear that. Yes, LeBron and Anthony Davis were great in that series, but they weren’t good enough against Denver, so the GOAT is to blame.”
The Lakers, who reached the conference finals last year, lost in the first round of this season’s NBA playoffs to the Denver Nuggets, the same team they eliminated in 2023, earlier this week.
