“I waved my friend over and he showed me the Heimlich maneuver. [maneuver] And he couldn't get the food out. And I panicked and signaled for the other person to try. After about 90 seconds, the second one failed. Then the nurse came in and he tried too, but unfortunately it still didn't work.”

The situation became even more frightening.

“After about two minutes I lost vision and started to lose consciousness. It didn't seem real as I could hear everyone talking and trying everything to help me but nothing was working. Just as I was about to lose consciousness Jack Foster (the fourth person to try) made an attempt,” Barnes continued.

“Mr. Foster later told me he was a youth sports coach and had just trained his team in CPR and how to rescue someone who is choking. That training is what got me here today. I'm grateful to him and everyone involved for saving my life that night.”
