ESPYs 2025: Shane Gillis tells inappropriate joke about Caitlin Clark

Shane Gillis Hosts Espis, Touches on Caitlyn Clark

Comedian Shane Gillis took the stage on Wednesday night to host Espis, and he managed to weave in some humor about Indiana Fever’s star, Caitlyn Clark, during one of his opening monologues.

Gillis, known for his role in the Netflix series “Tyres,” presented a diverse range of jokes while performing in Los Angeles. He also poked fun at Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cleveland Browns quarterback, Chedure Sanders.

After humorously discussing Clark’s future—suggesting she might end up working at Waffle House post-WNBA—Gillis lightened the mood with laughter from the audience.

Despite Gillis’ jokes, Clark was absent from the event as she was being evaluated for injuries sustained during her team’s recent victory against the Connecticut Sun. She had left the floor on Tuesday night visibly upset and was seen on the bench in distress.

Diving deeper into Clark’s situation, reports indicate her brothers are upset about the latest injury to the Fever star. Clark is expected to lead in the upcoming All-Star Game and has been participating in a 3-point shooting contest, but her status seems uncertain.

Head coach Stephanie White commented on the situation, stating, “There’s no discussion about this weekend yet.” Though Clark’s imaging was done, her availability remains unclear. She previously missed time due to a quad injury and had just returned from a brief hiatus related to muscle tension.

Reflecting on her recent injury, White emphasized her uncertainty, saying, “I often know when I get injured with groin and hamstring issues.” The gravity of Clark’s injury might mean different outcomes for her playing future.
