Alpine took a small step in Austin last week.
The team brought a series of upgrades to the A524 to the Circuit of the Americas, resulting in its strongest qualifying session of the season. Pierre Gasly entered Q3 and often topped the timesheets in both Q1 and Q2, eventually qualifying in 7th place.
George Russell's pitlane start saw him promoted to sixth on the grid, and although he fell short of the points, it was a sign of progress for the team.
Alpine now hopes to build on that progress at this weekend's Mexico City Grand Prix.
“I'm looking forward to getting back on track soon this weekend in Mexico City. Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a very unique course at such a high altitude,” Gasly said at the team's media preview. “The thin air means we have to run with a high-downforce wing, but the car still feels light to drive and we reached some of the highest speeds of the season on the long main straight. will be a completely different challenge, but I'll do my best to use everything I learned about the car in Texas to have a stronger weekend.”
“I'm looking forward to returning to Mexico City this weekend. It's an exciting circuit with a huge atmosphere. One of the best parts for all the drivers is the packed stadium section. It's always really nice to drive there. It's special and gives us even more excitement before the start of the race,'' Ocon added. “The track is good for driving and the high elevation makes the car handle differently than just about anywhere else on the calendar. We will use what we learned from the upgrades in Austin to maximize our weekend. extract as much performance as possible.”
