Florida Woman Avoids Jail Time After Stealing Luxury Watches
In Florida, a woman has faced minimal consequences after deceiving wealthy men into hotel rooms, where she stole valuable watches from them.
Esther Torres, aged 20, has received a sentence of five years of probation instead of prison time. She was accused of pepper-spraying a man and stealing his luxury items, including an expensive Hugo Boss watch and a stunning Rolex valued at $22,000, according to reports.
The first incident happened at the Breakwater Hotel in Miami Beach, where Torres attacked one of the victims and took the Hugo Boss watch from his wrist.
Additionally, she stole over $200 in cash, euros, and some credit cards from him.
In another occurrence, she pepper-sprayed a different man at the Fontainebleau hotel and snatched a Rolex Submariner from him.
The victim told authorities that the mace left him temporarily blinded.
Surveillance footage captured Torres leaving both hotels shortly after committing the thefts.
“She preys on male victims; we have a predator here,” remarked Mitch Novik, owner of a nearby hotel. He mentioned how he provided surveillance footage to law enforcement in their pursuit of Torres.
Police began tracking Torres in April when she showed up at the scene of another individual’s traffic stop. She was later recognized as a suspect based on her driver’s license, which she had presented to officers at that stop.
Torres faced trial in May and was arrested during the traffic stop. The police confirmed her identity using images from a “need to identify” flyer distributed by law enforcement.
Body camera footage released from her arrest shows her dressed in a strapless white top and a hooded jacket. At one point, an officer asks, “You don’t have a weapon on you, right?” to which she replies, “No, no.”
At the time of her arrest, there was a child in her vehicle, who was picked up before she was taken into custody.
Initially charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, she was held without bond, as reported. However, in June, Torres was released on a recognizance bond and is now serving her sentence under probation.
