Quinn Excited for Home Court Advantage at US Open
The US Open marks the end of the tennis season’s Grand Slam tournaments, and 21-year-old Ethan Quinn expresses a sense of pride competing in his homeland after considerable travel. He resonates with many Americans in that sentiment.
Tennis is inherently individualistic, with every player striving for personal success, yet there’s a strong bond among the American contestants. Quinn is participating in his third US Open, ranking 84th in his career, and underscores the closeness of this competitive group.
With 30 players representing the US in the tournament’s main draw—more than any other nation—Quinn reflected on this shared pride. “We all take great pride in being here,” he shared, focusing on maintaining the right nutrition amidst the rigorous competition. “This year feels particularly special with so many Americans in the draw.”
Recently, before heading to New York, Quinn competed at the Cincinnati Open. Although the outcome wasn’t what he hoped for, he values the camaraderie among his fellow players. “It’s like we’re neighbors, really,” he noted, speaking about the friendships among players like Riley Opelka, Taylor Fritz, Francis Tiafoe, and Tommy Paul, who have supported each other for about 15 years.
He also acknowledged the competitive spirit. “Everyone wants to be the top American, and I think that adds an interesting layer to the competition,” he said. Quinn recognizes that defeating fellow Americans can propel players up the ATP rankings, and events like the US Open can elevate lesser-known players like himself.
“Being in America for this tournament is something we all look forward to,” Quinn remarked. “The atmosphere is just different from other tournaments. It’s electric.”
Quinn is set to kick off his US Open journey against Switzerland’s Jerome Kim. He understands the importance of inner strength to advance in the tournament, while also feeling buoyed by the support of fellow Americans. “Tennis can feel lonely, but knowing you have a team makes it easier,” he explained.
Maintaining Nutrition
Proper preparation for tournaments involves careful consideration of nutrition. Quinn, for instance, relies on Orgain’s organic protein shake, fitting it into a balanced diet that he’s strict about. “I do enjoy indulging sometimes, but those shakes are vital for my routine,” he admitted.
“I really believe in the importance of protein in my meals,” he said, discussing his diet that includes steaks and protein shakes, especially during intense training periods. “This past week has been hectic with training and commitments. Having a protein shake at hand is crucial.”
Quinn is looking forward to what the US Open brings, both in terms of personal growth and the thrill of competition alongside fellow Americans. His approach to nutrition reflects an athlete’s commitment to performance, making every detail count as he prepares to take the court.
