Investors Channel Billions into Digital Assets Amid Regulatory Changes
Last week, approximately $4 billion was injected into digital assets, with the U.S. accounting for a staggering 99% of this total. Many investors are drawing inspiration from President Trump’s initiatives aimed at steering public retirement accounts towards alternative assets.
“My administration has reduced the regulatory burdens and legal risks hindering the competitive revenue and diversification of assets that American workers need for dignified retirements,” he stated, hinting that his executive orders are aimed at “democratizing access to alternative assets for 401(k) investors.”
In a notable development, an Ethereum ETP (exchange-traded product) that allows investors to engage with crypto without direct ownership saw an influx of $2.87 billion last week alone. This product has recorded annual inflows totaling $11 billion, according to Coinshares.
Ethereum also surged last Friday, nearing the $48,000 mark, following comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who hinted at potential interest rate cuts as early as September. The cryptocurrency had peaked at $4,865.81 in November 2021.
Interestingly, BlackRock, through its ETF arm, is seeing a surge in Ethereum and Bitcoin Trust ETFs amid this momentum.
Trump’s 401(k) Expansion: Understanding the Implications
From BlackRock’s perspective, the focus on Ethereum Trust ETFs and Bitcoin products is notable. Meanwhile, Bitcoin itself, often overshadowed by Ethereum, experienced a $552 million rebound, reversing a trend of outflows over the previous weeks. Currently, Bitcoin stands at over $116,000, down from its record of $124,495.51 reached on August 14th.
Smaller cryptocurrencies like Solana and XRP also recorded notable inflows, attracting $176.5 million and $125 million, respectively.
Coinshares reports significant annual influxes from major players including Ishares, Proshares, Fidelity, and others. The current landscape suggests a continued interest in diversifying investment options within the digital asset realm.
