Venezuela Wins World Baseball Classic

Eugenio Suarez, who drove in the winning run for Venezuela against Team USA in the World Baseball Classic final, shared his thoughts in a post-game interview. “What can I say about this? It’s amazing. God is good. All glory goes to the Lord Jesus. He was with us the whole time,” Suarez told a reporter after their 3-2 victory over the U.S.

He emphasized the importance of faith, saying, “We have to glorify and put his name above all else. Nobody believed in Venezuela, and now we don’t believe in Venezuela.” The win felt monumental for Suarez and his teammates, a true celebration for their nation.

Earlier in the tournament, Suarez spoke about his faith after hitting a home run in a comeback win over Italy. He knew there was still more to accomplish before returning to his MLB team. In their game against Team USA, played at Lorne Depot Park, Venezuela kept their opponents to only two hits and four runners until Bryce Harper tied the game in the eighth inning with a home run.

Suarez, however, was poised to reclaim the momentum. After Javier Sanoja stole second base, Suarez got the perfect pitch, a 3-2 changeup from Garrett Whitlock, and he sent the ball into the left-center field, bringing in the winning run.

When asked about his reaction after hitting the double, Suarez simply said, “At that moment, I just prayed. I pointed up to my family in the stands, and they were thrilled for me. God is good, God is good.”

This victory marked Venezuela’s first World Baseball Classic championship, creating an emotional moment for everyone involved—players, coaches, and fans alike.

Suarez reflected on their unity: “We are always together. We aren’t just teammates; we’re family. This team is special. We play with passion, love, and we feel it for our country. This means everything to us. Now we are champions.”
