Eurosport Commenter Apologizes for ‘Sexist’ Remark That Led to Dismissal from Olympics Coverage
Eurosport’s Bob Ballard has apologised for “sexist” comments which ultimately led to him being removed from the Olympics coverage.
“Well, the girls are just finishing up. You know what it’s like to hang out and put on makeup,” Ballard said on Saturday after the Australian women’s swimming team won the 4x100m freestyle relay.
The comments were unpopular and Ballard was removed from Olympic coverage.
On Monday, he apologized for his choice of words on social media.
“Comments I made at the Australian freestyle relay victory ceremony on Saturday have upset some people. [sic.] It was never my intention to offend or disrespect anyone, and I apologize if that was the case. [sic.] “I’m a big fan of women’s sports,” Ballard said. I have written.
“I will truly miss the Eurosport team and wish them all the best in the remaining Olympics. No further comments. Thank you.”

Eurosport announced on Sunday that Ballard had been removed from its Olympic coverage.
“During last night’s Eurosport broadcast, commentator Bob Ballard made inappropriate comments,” Eurosport reported. Said “As a result, he has been removed from our list of commentators with immediate effect,” the statement said.
Many on social media felt Ballard’s firing was unfair.
