Nashville, Tennessee –
Evan Engram was in high spirits on Tuesday during his time at Vanderbilt, and it wasn’t solely due to catching up with fellow players at Tight End College (TEU). He was particularly excited to talk about his new teammate with the Denver Broncos.
This offseason, Engram signed a $23 million contract to join the Broncos, aiming to enhance an offense he feels could lead them deep into the playoffs in 2024.
One notable shift for the Broncos has been their rise from a struggling AFC West team to a wild card contender, largely attributed to rookie quarterback Bonnix. Engram, still acclimating to his new teammates, expressed his admiration for Bonnix when speaking at the TEU summit, a three-day event co-founded by notable players like Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Greg Olsen.
Engram remarked, “I’ve been truly impressed with him so far. He has the talent and work ethic that stands out on film. As I’ve explored options for a new team, I saw the potential within the Broncos.” He acknowledged the early success of Nix’s rookie season, viewing him as a quarterback with impressive attributes and the foundation for a solid career ahead.
Engram, however, knows that raw physical talent isn’t everything in the NFL, especially in such a high-pressure position. He was particularly struck by Nix’s mindset and approach to the game.
“What I admire most about him is his thought process, how he communicates with both himself and his teammates,” Engram elaborated. “For a second-year quarterback, the way he processes everything is quite remarkable.” He continued, stating that the level of dedication and leadership Nix exhibits seems to set him apart.
Last season, Nix had an impressive record, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards with 29 touchdowns while also rushing for four scores, making him a dual threat on the field.
In discussing his transition from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Broncos, Engram conveyed a warm sense of welcome from the entire team. “I’m in Denver during OTAs, and even though the season hasn’t kicked off yet, the energy, the camaraderie, and the overall talent of the team and coaching staff make me feel fortunate to be here.”
