Everytown Labels ATF Director a Tool of the Gun Industry Due to Halt on Suppressor Registration

Everytown Criticizes ATF’s New Suppressor Guidelines

Everytown for Gun Safety, associated with Mike Bloomberg, expressed strong discontent with the ATF’s new guidelines concerning suppressor sales, labeling ATF Director Robert Cekada a “puppet” of the gun industry.

Before the guidelines were released, Director Cekada informed Breitbart News that the ATF and DOJ decided to expand an August 5, 2026, district court ruling that challenged suppressor registration. This move, he said, aimed to relieve law-abiding citizens from the burdensome National Firearms Act (NFA) regulations.

The ruling in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF saw U.S. District Court Judge James Wesley Hendrix deem the registration requirements for suppressors and short-barreled firearms unconstitutional, making it clear those regulations could not be enforced against the plaintiffs. Following this, Cekada announced the ATF and DOJ’s intention to apply the ruling to all law-abiding Americans, effectively dismantling federal NFA registration requirements for suppressors and short-barreled firearms.

Everytown was clearly not pleased with this decision. In an Instagram post, they remarked, “The federal agency tasked with enforcing our gun laws is now deciding not to.” They emphasized that the National Firearms Act, introduced nearly a century ago, was designed to keep firearms like short-barreled rifles, shotguns, and silencers out of criminals’ reach.

They further criticized Cekada, asserting that his choice to align with the gun industry jeopardizes community safety.

Interestingly, suppressor sales appear to be on the rise amidst this controversy.
