Ex-adult film star Asia Carrera passes Texas bar exam to become a lawyer

Former adult film actress Asia Carrera has made a significant career shift by successfully passing the Texas bar exam, paving the way for her to become a lawyer.

Born Jessica Steinhauser in New York City, she announced her achievement this week after tackling the challenging exam in Waco back in February.

“I passed the bar exam!!!” she shared in a Facebook post. “Asia Esquire, everyone!!!”

“When I looked out into this huge auditorium filled with around 1,000 candidates, I thought, ‘These are the people I’m up against.’ It was a bit intimidating, but I think it worked out!” she added.

Carrera, now 52, mentioned that this was her second try at the “two-day, 12-hour” test, having narrowly missed the passing score on her previous attempt by just two points.

“I fell short last time by only 2 points (268 out of 270), and though I was still a bit unsure about the law, I was close to passing on the practice exam,” she noted in a Facebook update.

This time, she felt more prepared and proudly stated that she scored higher than 91% of her peers at Barbri Bar Prep during the final exam.

As reported by public records, she is now officially a member of the Texas Bar under her real name, which is a necessary step to practice law.

Some gossip outlets suggest that Carrera never initially aimed to become a lawyer but rather wanted to prove her capabilities by passing the exam.

This achievement isn’t terribly surprising given her educational background. Carrera is a Mensa member with an IQ of 156 and also holds a master’s degree in education, indicating a strong academic foundation quite different from her past career in the adult film industry.

She was born to a German mother and a Japanese father and grew up in Little Silver, New Jersey, where she demonstrated notable academic ability from a young age.

By the time she was 16, she was already teaching English at a Japanese university. She later secured a full scholarship to Rutgers University but dropped out when she realized she could earn significantly more money through dance and modeling work, eventually leading her to a career in adult entertainment.

After stepping away from that industry, Carrera has kept a relatively low profile, focusing on her life beyond the public eye.

It remains uncertain whether she plans to pursue a career in law actively or if her main goal was simply to validate her skills. Regardless, her recent success is noteworthy.
