A former Coast Guard member, Peter Stinson, has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump, according to court documents. Stinson, who hails from Virginia, served as a US Coast Guard officer from 1988 until 2021 and had a background as a sharpshooter and FEMA instructor.
An affidavit submitted by members of an FBI task force details a range of chilling online threats attributed to Stinson. In one instance, he referenced Trump being “Lugied” on May 9, a term related to Luigi Mangione, linked to the killing of healthcare CEO Brian Thompson last year.
Stinson reportedly made graphic threats against Trump, involving weapons such as guns and knives, across multiple social media platforms. Interestingly, he claimed he “doesn’t have the necessary skills” to carry out an assassination but suggested, in a rather unsettling way, that this might not be entirely accurate.
The affidavit discusses Stinson’s repeated mentions of “8647,” which officials believe might relate to an Instagram post from former FBI director James Comey. The documents also note that Stinson self-identified as a member of Antifa.
Earlier this year, on February 2nd, Stinson took to X, stating, “It’s true. This is war. The sides are drawn out. Antifa always wins in the end. Violence is essentially necessary.” His most recent post, dated June 11 on Bluesky, ominously declared, “The party will become Yuge when he dies.”
Stinson is set to appear in federal court on Wednesday to address charges linked to threats against the president.
