Allegations Surround Senate Candidate Graham Platner
Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate for Senate, faces startling accusations from his former girlfriend, Lindsey Fifield. She claims he expressed disturbing fantasies about attacking home invaders while engaging in activities like watching TV and sharpening an axe.
Fifield, who dated Platner from 2013 to 2015, recounted some of these unsettling remarks: “He would say, ‘If anyone comes in here, I’m going to rape you.’” She elaborated that he seemed to regard this hypothetically violent scenario as a demonstration of superiority. Interestingly, he emphasized that his intention was not of a sexual nature, stating it was “not in a homosexual way.”
These revelations come amidst a tumultuous campaign for Platner, who announced his candidacy against a long-serving Republican senator last August. Following that, a series of offensive online comments attributed to him surfaced, where he disparaged various groups, including women and veterans. There were also alarming disclosures about a Nazi tattoo he reportedly has from his military service, and, just last week, it was uncovered that he had been messaging women on dating apps despite being married.
On Thursday, Fifield joined two other ex-girlfriends in speaking to the media, highlighting consistent troubling behavior throughout their relationships with Platner. She mentioned that his talk about violence made her anxious, a feeling compounded by the presence of firearms and a sharp axe he often sharpened while voicing violent thoughts. “He even discussed killing people he viewed as threats, framing rape as a method of exerting power,” she stated.
Fifield’s allegations are just part of a broader tapestry of troubling testimonies, with other former partners indicating that Platner displayed patterns of dishonesty and disrespect towards women. Among these claims is also a confrontation where he reportedly physically restrained her during arguments.
Platner has “strongly” refuted these accounts, yet acknowledged the possibility of having acted poorly, attributing it to undiagnosed PTSD from his time in combat. “I have been candid about a dark chapter in my life,” he stated, recognizing his struggles with alcohol and other personal issues.
While he insists on the political motives behind these accusations, Fifield maintains that her intentions are genuine, asserting that she would have shared her experiences regardless of Platner’s party affiliation.
