Former IndyCar Driver Rick Treadway Dies in Motorcycle Accident
Rick Treadway, a former IndyCar driver who participated in the 2002 Indianapolis 500, passed away on Saturday due to a motorcycle accident. He was 56 years old.
Treadway was part of his father’s racing team, Treadway Hubbard Racing, during the 2002 Indy 500, where he began from the 17th position and finished 29th. His journey in IndyCar started mid-way through the 2001 season in Kentucky, and he raced in eight events the following year.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway noted that “the start of the Indy 500 was the highlight of Treadway’s IndyCar Series career,” where he competed in a total of 11 races over two seasons.
Drivers like Conor Daly and Arie Luyendyk paid their respects on social media. Daly expressed his sadness, mentioning how much Treadway’s name resonated with their program: “So sad to see this news today… Rest in peace, Ricky.” Luyendyk added that Treadway was a “fun, crazy, humble, wild, and brave person,” offering condolences to Treadway’s family and friends.
Treadway also participated in the Formula 2000 Junior Formula Racing Series and took part in the Indy Legends Charity Pro-Am race from 2014 to 2018. His contributions to the sport will certainly be remembered by many.
