Iran retaliates, sirens blare in Tel Aviv
Reports indicate there was a significant explosion in Israel as Iran ramped up its retaliatory actions. Confirmations from Israeli officials suggest that around 40 high-ranking Iranian leaders lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.
On Saturday, former college and Team USA basketball player Destiny Littleton shared her alarming experience as she fled from Iranian counterattacks in Israel. In her footage, civilians could be seen panicking, particularly as a drone hovered nearby. Littleton, who previously played for South Carolina and is now with Hapoel Jerusalem, updated her followers on Instagram about taking refuge in a local air raid shelter amidst the chaos.
The situation escalated following coordinated military strikes from the U.S. and Israel against Iran, prompting Iran to retaliate with missiles and drones that targeted major cities, including Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem.
Littleton described a frantic escape from her shelter, trying to locate a safer place as sirens blared in the background. At one point, she pointed her camera at what seemed to be a missile flying overhead, her words laced with urgency: “I’m trying to find the vault, but I can’t find it.” Her distress grew as sounds of distant explosions filled the air, prompting her to exclaim in alarm.
Realizing the shelter was inadequate for her needs, she decided to move to a teammate’s apartment, stating the previous shelter “couldn’t fit five people in.” Once there, she reported hearing multiple explosions, exclaiming about the unsettling sounds permeating the Jerusalem skyline.
In one of her final updates, Littleton appeared visibly shaken as she pointed out a drone overhead. “Right now, there are no sirens, and something is exploding in the sky!” she noted, capturing the anxiety of those around her. She remarked on the numerous explosions occurring nearby and expressed disbelief at the sight of another drone, prompting further panic among her companions.
As the situation unfolded, video footage painted a vivid picture of the chaos surrounding her and the immediate dangers she faced.
Meanwhile, South Carolina’s coach, Dawn Staley, shared plans to safely bring Littleton and two other players back home amid the escalating conflict. Her emotional message emphasized the collective hopes for safety and a swift return for everyone involved.
The U.S. initiated offensive actions against Iran early Saturday, coinciding with a video statement where President Trump urged the Iranian populace to consider governmental change. Iran, in response, unleashed missile attacks targeting U.S. bases throughout the Middle East, reportedly launching about 40 projectiles into Israel.
