Chris Payton Jones, Former NFL Player, Dies in Car Crash
Chris Payton Jones, a former NFL defensive back, tragically passed away in a car accident in Florida on Saturday night at the age of 30.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Peyton-Jones was driving when he collided with a pickup truck, which subsequently overturned, causing his vehicle to catch fire. Reports indicate that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
From 2018 to 2021, Peyton-Jones played for four different NFL teams before concluding his career with the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL. He later joined the UFL, where he played for the St. Louis BattleHawks.
The United Football League expressed condolences in a statement: “We are mourning the tragic passing of former St. Louis BattleHawks defensive back Chris Payton-Jones. Chris was a cherished teammate and leader, exemplifying hard work and resilience throughout his career.”

Peyton-Jones was known as a standout player during his time at the University of Nebraska. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and later played for the Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings.
Over his NFL career, he participated in 29 games, tallying 48 tackles and seven pass breakups. While with the BattleHawks, he played 18 regular-season games, achieving 56 tackles and two interceptions.
