Former California Sen. Katie Porter was once said to have dumped “steamed” mashed potatoes on her then-head, but now she's fighting for Gov. Gavin Newsom's successor, calling herself a scrappy enemy to President Trump.
California Democrat launched her campaign in Tuesday's video Posted on x It didn't attack Newsom, who is restricted from serving again, but claimed that current elected leaders such as Trump were just giving “bugs-ts” to her state members about policies that promote their high cost of living.
“I first ran to the office to hold Trump accountable. Porter, 51, said in footage, referring to her first congressional campaign in 2018.
“As governor, when Trump hurts Californians, I will never retreat. He embraces disaster relief, attacks our rights, attacks our community, ruins working families and benefits myself and his associates,” she said.
Trump, 78, has never threatened to rescue California's federal emergency management agency, but claimed Newsom's climate policy is stopping the state's dry fires from reaching the southern region, where it is severe.
Porter, a single mother of three, also pointed out in the video to boast that she “actually knows the prices of grocery.”
Her former spouse, Matthew Hoffman, claimed that she verbally denounced him in the divorce proceedings almost two years ago, chucking “toys, books and other objects” in her 10-year marriage.
During the 2006 warm marriage fight, Porter chuckled Hoffmann for not being able to “read the F-Piking's instructions” while preparing dinner, and later “ditching a ceramic bowl of hot potatoes and burning my scalp,” according to a 2023 court filing in California, which he later filed in April 2023 courthouse.
Porter “regularly” called Hoffman “F-King Iadiot” and “F-King Infoltent,” the divorce application said.
She also told him “You're too stupid to operate it,” so she told him “have a cell phone.”
My colleagues at the time sought a restraining order against Hoffman after submission. The judge granted her request as well as custody of the three children.
In the video announcement, she described other economic, climate-related, housing and healthcare challenges facing Golden State residents.
Porter delivers a line about “dangerous leaders,” footage shows Trump, tech billionaire Elon Musk, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).
These numbers were followed by those who Porter labelled “corrupted enablers” on Trump's agenda. This includes former Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY.).
Porter, who served three terms in the US home and also worked as a bankruptcy law professor, has twice promised to lead “new ideas” to “make Californians better lives” without listing new plans.
“I work with anyone. I've never been sold, so I say no to anyone. And I'll never be,” Porter says.
She entered the Democratic reserve field, which was crowded for governoral contests that included Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigoza and California Lt. Colonel Eleni Kunarakis after losing a race in the US Senate last year.
Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif) defeated her by over a million votes in that major fight. Porter later exploded about “the onslaught of billionaires who have spent millions to equip this election.”
