Kelly Dodd Calls Out Andy Cohen Over MAGA Women on “Real Housewives”
Former “Real Housewives of Orange County” personality Kelly Dodd made headlines on Tuesday by describing herself as “slutty” in response to Bravo host Andy Cohen defending the presence of “MAGA women” on the show.
Dodd spoke to Fox News Digital after Cohen addressed a thread questioning why there are “so many MAGA women” on the Orange County season. Cohen stated, “You can’t have a show without introducing people with different perspectives. And this is a show about women and their relationships, not politics.”
However, Dodd pushed back against this rationale, suggesting that Cohen and Bravo previously ignored conservative views and are now focusing on ratings. “They’re making this excuse that they need perspective when I don’t think that’s true,” she remarked, adding her belief that Cohen is “full of himself.”
She criticized Cohen’s earlier remarks that targeted conservative viewpoints, arguing that his recent comments about inclusivity seem disingenuous. “I think he realizes that his ratings are down. He needs to win back conservatives. He’s lost half his viewers,” she explained, stressing that his fixations on politics could alienate a large portion of the audience.
Cohen has previously asserted that the “Real Housewives” franchise is not political, emphasizing that the show focuses on women’s lives. Dodd, however, insisted that before the pandemic, politics wasn’t a topic she engaged with either.
Both Bravo and NBCUniversal have not provided comments on the dispute. Attempts by Fox News Digital to reach out to Cohen’s representatives have gone unanswered.
Dodd is not the only cast member affected by the show’s approach to controversy. She, along with others, was let go or chose to exit following critical reactions to their views. She was previously dismissed in 2021 for remarks related to the coronavirus pandemic and accusations of mocking the Black Lives Matter movement.
Another former cast member, Annemarie Wiley, also shared her experience of facing repercussions for her conservative views, claiming she received poor editing and was not invited back after expressing opinions on women’s sports.
As of early this year, NBCUniversal touted Bravo as a leading cable network among women, stating it had a strong start in streaming. Nevertheless, reports indicate that ratings for the “Real Housewives” series have seen declines in recent years.
