Ex-RNC chair Ronna McDaniel suggests Democrats could win the House.

Former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel says Democrats may take House

Ronna McDaniel, the former Chair of the Republican National Committee, suggested on Tuesday that the Democrats are likely to take control of the House of Representatives as the midterm elections approach.

“I think the House, you know, with three seats that the Dems need to pick up, is probably going to go to the Democrats,” she remarked during an interview with CBS News’s Major Garrett. “And right now, all eyes are on the Senate, but certainly, the map has expanded, and Democrats are feeling optimistic.”

According to recent projections from Decision Desk HQ, the Democratic Party has approximately an 80 percent chance of regaining control of the House. In contrast, their chances in the Senate are a bit slimmer, with DDHQ estimating about a 57 percent likelihood of the party regaining a majority in that chamber.

McDaniel, who led the RNC from 2017 until 2024, pointed to President Trump’s recent visits to traditionally Republican states like Kansas, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas as signs of electoral challenges for the GOP in this midterm cycle.

“I know for a fact, you’re not in these states unless there’s a data point that’s driving him to spend time in those states,” she said. “How many times has he been to Texas? I mean, we shouldn’t be spending $200 million or $300 million defending a Senate candidate there, so there’s a lot at stake.”

On Tuesday, Trump held his fourth rally in Texas in just two months, supporting the GOP’s Senate nominee, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, in Corpus Christi and Lubbock.

Trump’s political action committee, MAGA Inc., has contributed millions to Paxton’s campaign against state Rep. James Talarico (D). Talarico has also raised significant funds, reporting nearly $10 million in cash on hand in recent Federal Election Commission filings.

Talarico has shown strong polling numbers among likely voters in Texas, which has raised concerns for Republicans about the possibility of a Democrat winning a U.S. Senate seat in the state for the first time since 1988.

During Trump’s rallies in Texas, he criticized Talarico’s positions on various issues, calling him “Talafreako.” In response, Talarico held a rally in Lubbock on the same day, downplaying the attacks by stating, “That’s a lot of Talafreakos in one room” and declaring that Texas was “ready for change.”
