Former NFL Player Shot in Los Angeles
Ricky Tenners, a former NFL player, was hospitalized following a shooting incident in Los Angeles last Friday. He was reportedly shot in the abdomen and immediately underwent emergency surgery. Thankfully, he is anticipated to make a full recovery.
Reports suggest that the shooting might have resulted from a personal dispute involving Tenners, his girlfriend, and the father of her child, though the specifics remain unclear. Witnesses mentioned seeing a man and woman fleeing the area in a black SUV, but so far, no arrests have been made.
Tenners distinguished himself as a versatile player during his high school career at Jordan High School in Los Angeles. He had impressive stats, wrapping up his senior season with 112 carries for 1,344 yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 19 receptions for 628 yards and five scores. These performances earned him first-team all-city and all-state accolades, positioning him as the nation’s No. 94 prospect according to ESPN.
Earlier in his high school career, as a junior, he rushed for 1,234 yards and 12 touchdowns, catching 15 passes for 307 yards and four more touchdowns, while also contributing defensively with 20 tackles and three interceptions. He made the All-Eastern League first team during that time.
Tenners eventually chose to play for Nebraska, opting for the Cornhuskers over other schools like USC and UCLA, despite receiving offers from several other universities, including California and Colorado.
However, his career at Nebraska didn’t really take off. Over five seasons from 2006 to 2010, he participated in 51 games, redshirting in 2009 due to an injury. He was named special teams MVP in both 2006 and 2007.
After going undrafted in 2011, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks and managed to record one tackle during three preseason games before being released during final roster cuts, which effectively marked the end of his NFL journey.
