A former TV news anchor is in jail, suspected of killing her elderly mother. Angeline “Angie” Mock, 47, who once worked as an anchor at FOX 2 News in St. Louis, was arrested on Friday in Wichita, Kansas. Police allege she stabbed her 80-year-old mother, Anita Abers, in their shared home.
Officers arrived at the scene around 7:50 a.m. to find Mock outside with an injury to her hand. Inside, they discovered Abers unresponsive in bed, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
Following treatment for her injuries, Mock was charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held on $1 million bail at the Sedgwick County Jail. Before her arrest, she had been employed in sales at a data management software company, having previously worked as a news anchor in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City.
Neighbors were reportedly shaken after witnessing Mock, bloodied, exit the home. One neighbor, Alyssa Castro, recounted how Mock approached her car in a distressed state, asking for help while covered in blood. Castro mentioned that Mock briefly took her cellphone and ran back into the house, where she claimed to have “stabbed” someone.
The reasons behind this tragic event remain uncertain, and details about Mock’s first court appearance have not yet been disclosed. Efforts have been made to contact the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for further information.
