Ex-Yankee’s son may have died of food poisoning: report

Authorities reportedly ruled out the choking and suggested that food poisoning could be the cause of Brett Gardner's 14-year-old son's death.

Miller Gardner and his family reportedly were on vacation in Costa Rica when he got sick and died last week. The former Yankees outfielder and his wife announced Miller's death on Sunday.

Suffocation was originally listed as a cause of death, according to NBC News. However, the New York Post reports that it is now excluded, citing Costa Rica's investigative police.

Officials told the outlet that his signal was not jammed.

Miller vomits in his bed, leading investigators, initially believing he had suffocated and died.

The family reportedly stayed at Arena Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, on the outskirts of Manuel Antonio National Park.

Costa Rican officials have not responded to emails compiled by Fox News Digital.

Officials at the Costa Rica Judicial Research Agency I told NBC Gardner said “evidently after taking some food, there is a possibility of addiction.” The State Department said in a statement to Fox News Digital that local officials are investigating the death that occurred in Costa Rica on March 21.

Brett and Jessica Gardner said other families got sick on vacation.

“There are very few questions and answers at this point, but I know that he settled asleep and passed away on the morning of Friday March 21st,” they said.

“Miller is our beloved son and brother, and we still can't understand our lives without his infectious smile. He loved soccer, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived his life to the fullest every day.”

Gardner was an outfielder for the Yankees for 14 seasons and was on the team when they last won. World Series Title for 2009. He last performed in 2021 and spent his entire career in the Bronx.

Gardner's former team will open their season against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday at 3:05pm ET. The two teams made this offseason deal when they traded Nestor Cortes and Devin Williams.
