Ex-Zelensky Press Secretary Urges Ukraine to Accept Peace Agreement

Call for Peace in Ukraine

Yulia Mendel, the former spokesperson for President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has urged Ukraine to reach a proposed peace agreement to put an end to the ongoing war with Russia.

In a recent post on X, Mendel described her country as “bleeding.” She argued that those who reflexively reject peace proposals may believe they are acting in Ukraine’s best interest, yet this illustrates a lack of understanding of the actual situations faced on the front lines.

“Any future agreement with Ukraine will only worsen our circumstances—because we are losing,” Mendel stated. “We are losing people, territory, and even our economy.”

She also took aim at the European Union, criticizing it for lacking a solid strategy and failing to curtail Russia’s increasing financial resources. Mendel noted that since February 2022, the EU has paid Russia over 311 billion euros for energy and goods.

“Factoring in the human toll, the claim that ‘Russia has gained very little land’ seems quite naïve,” Mendel remarked. “In the past three years, we’ve lost more lives than the total population of several European nations.”

Mendel’s post continued:

My country is bleeding. Many of those who reflexively oppose any peace plan think they are safeguarding Ukraine. With due respect, this highlights their lack of awareness regarding the realities on the front lines and at home.

War isn’t a Hollywood production. I will never forsake the values that God and democracy prioritize in human life. In essence, human life is the utmost value, and we must protect living, breathing individuals.

According to reports, Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Geneva for discussions surrounding a 28-point plan aimed at resolving the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

This plan was created by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Rubio, with adjustments made by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

A press release from the White House indicated that representatives from Ukraine and the U.S. have engaged in conversations about the proposed peace agreement, describing the dialogue as constructive, focused, and respectful.

“Both sides acknowledged the discussions as very productive,” the release stated. “They made significant strides in aligning views and outlining clear next steps. We reiterated that any forthcoming agreement must preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and lead to a sustainable and just peace.”
