Exclusive: Blaze Media runs into actor Dennis Quaid as Palisades fire threatens new swaths of LA County

brentwood california — Fear and frustration spread across Los Angeles last weekend as the Palisades Fire, which destroyed much of Pacific Palisades and Malibu, moved toward the San Fernando Valley and Brentwood.

The trajectory of the Palisades Fire has prompted new evacuations in nearby areas of Encino to the north and Mandeville Canyon to the south. The response of firefighters on the ground and in the air heated up as they tried to stop the fire from reaching dense areas and Interstate 405. If the fire breaks out of containment, it could destroy areas that are home to hundreds of thousands of people and disrupt major highways connecting Los Angeles County.

“A bunch of politicians pointing fingers at each other. That's not what I want to hear on the news.”

Unlike at the beginning of last week, the lack of wind and water and fire retardant drops from aircraft made it much easier for first responders to extinguish the fires. The fire continued to burn at a slow pace downhill. Most of the homes in Mandeville Canyon, home to big-name celebrities, were abandoned by Saturday. The only traffic on the road was firefighters and media.

Crews have made significant progress in suppressing the Palisades Fire, but the area is still not out of the woods. The deep slopes of the hills are covered with dead leaves, branches and undergrowth, which only serve as further fuel for the inferno. Santa Ana's deadly winds are expected to pick up again this week.

At one home, firefighters were using garden hoses to water the deck and dead leaves as the fire moved down the hillside. Nearby, a homeowner left a hose running to spray his wooden roof.

Blaze Media encountered actor Dennis Quaid on Friday night as he was completing the evacuation of his home in the valley. When asked if he shares the same concerns and frustrations as others about how unprepared local and state governments are for wildfires despite ample warning, Quaid said: “Oh, yes!”

“So many politicians are blaming each other. I don't want to hear that on the news. I want people to be active on this issue. … So we have to get serious. It's time to give up on politics. has arrived,” Quaid added.

Access to Mandeville Canyon is strictly controlled. California National Guard checkpoints and police are checking the credentials of media personnel to prevent looters from ransacking abandoned homes.

Police stations near Santa Monica revealed Officials have arrested 10 robbery suspects since the fire began, he told Fox News' Bill Melgin. None of those arrested lived in the area where they were arrested, and many had tools to break into homes.
