The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an investigation into possible discriminatory employment practices at the Rhode Island Department of Education (“Ride”) and Providence Public Schools (PPS).
The DOJ began an investigation into the civil patterns or practices of rides and PPS and assessed whether employment practices distinguish between white PPS teachers by offering student loan repayment programs only to non-white teachers.
“Establishing or using the terms of employment or benefits of employment is a denial of equal employment opportunities and violating Title VII,” said Mac Warner, deputy assistant assistant to the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Office in a statement obtained by Breitbart News. “This study assesses whether Rhode Island Education and Providence Public Schools are in violation of Title VII, which is failing to provide equal benefits to employment to all teachers.”
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, national origin, gender and religion. The law gives DOJ the power to investigate state and local government employers if they have reason to believe that there is a “pattern or practice” of employment discrimination.
The letters of DOJ to Ride and PPS to PPS were signed by the acting assistant attorney general acting as Attorney General Pam Bondi Chad Mizelle, who was in charge of overseeing the investigation.
Deputy Attorney General Mack Warner and Michael Gates, as well as counselors for Deputy Attorney General Jason Mannion, also signed the letter. The investigation is expected to be led by Hermet Dillon, the candidate for President Donald Trump, the Civil Rights Office Attorney General, waiting for a Senate confirmation.
