When it comes to key issues, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) is more trusted than Minnesota's Democratic governor, Tim Walz, according to new polling data provided exclusively to Breitbart News in advance of publication.
Vance, former President Donald Trump's running mate, will face off against Waltz, Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, in next Tuesday night's vice presidential debate in New York, moderated by CBS News anchor Norah O'Donnell and foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan.
The poll, conducted for the Senate Opportunity Fund and obtained exclusively by Breitbart News, found that voters nationwide trust Vance more than Walz on each of the major issues facing the nation: immigration, national security, the economy and inflation, and crime. On both immigration and national security, Vance has the highest advantage over Waltz, at 6 percentage points.
On national security, 45% said they trust Vance more, while only 39% trust Walz more, and 16% said they didn't know or had no opinion. The numbers were similar on immigration.
On the economy and inflation, Vance's lead is the second highest at 5 percentage points. On these issues, Vance again has 45 percent and Waltz has 40 percent, with 15 percent saying they don't know or have no opinion.
On crime, Vance's advantage is the third highest at 3%. On crime, 43% say they trust Vance more than Walz, while only 40% say they trust Walz more, and 16% don't know or have no opinion.
Interestingly, the survey also found that Americans were significantly less likely to trust Waltz after learning about his close ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). As reported, Waltz has made dozens of trips to China, including some directly sponsored by the CCP, and he is currently under investigation by multiple congressional investigators.
An overwhelming majority (54%) said they were much or somewhat less likely to trust Walz on issues important to them after learning about the congressional investigation into his ties to China. Thirty-nine percent of respondents said they were much less likely to trust Walz. Only 15% said the revelation of the investigation made them more likely to trust Walz, and only 31% said it made no difference.
Additionally, the survey found that more voters disapprove of Harris than approve of her: 49% disapprove, while only 45% approve. And, as with recent Gallup polls, Republicans lead in the popular vote at 46% to Democrats at 41%. And while a majority of respondents, 67%, said the country is heading in the wrong direction, only 26% said Harris and the Joe Biden administration are leading America in the right direction.
The Senate Opportunity Fund poll was conducted September 17-19 among 800 likely voters nationwide, with an oversample of 537 voters from Senate battleground states, according to poll notes. The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
