EXCLUSIVE: Texas Republicans Press Biden-Harris Admin Over ‘Turning A Blind Eye’ To Non-Citizen Voters

The Texas Republican Coalition, led by Rep. Randy Weber and Rep. Chip Roy, released a letter Wednesday accusing the Biden-Harris administration of failing to provide requested citizenship data regarding voter registration.

According to the letter, Mr. Roy and Mr. Weber, along with 12 of their Republican colleagues, appealed to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Ulu Jadou about a request by Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson that non-citizens are not registered to vote. We asked them to comply with the request for assistance to confirm that there is no such thing. obtained By Daily Caller News Foundation. The request comes after Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott removed 6,500 potential non-citizens from the voter rolls in August, with lawmakers saying Jadu had no right to “do the state any good” in unraveling registration data. They argue that there is a “moral obligation to help.” (Related: Exclusive: 'The knife is out': Matt Gaetz defends Trump-appointed government watchdog after calls for firing)

The original deadline for Nelson's request was Oct. 2, but he has not yet received a response from the federal government, according to the letter.

“Public confidence in elections is a necessary cornerstone of any representative government,” Roy told DCNF. “That trust must be earned through diligence and transparency.”

“The Harris-Biden administration's refusal to provide Texas with critical information is a clear dereliction of duty,” Weber said.

According to the letter, the current administration has “consistently dismissed” concerns about non-referendum votes, insisting that “current laws preventing non-referendums are working.” At the same time, the administration is “preventing” states like Texas from properly enforcing these laws by withholding citizenship data requested by those states. The letter also references a recent lawsuit by the Biden-Harris administration over the removal of noncitizens from Alabama's voter rolls. So was Florida. forced It sued the Department of Homeland Security in 2012 to gain access to information that could help verify voters' citizenship.

“They turn a blind eye to non-citizens influencing our elections, and even undermine SAVE (American Voter Eligibility Protection Act), which prohibited non-citizens from voting,” Weber said. told DCNF. “Federal law prohibits non-citizens from voting, so why not give Texas the voter rolls it needs to keep elections clean? My Texas Republican colleagues and I urge them to release this information without delay. I request it.”

Mr. Roy spearheaded the SAVE Act, which narrowly passed the House of Representatives in July, requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. The SAVE Act has not yet been voted on in the Senate. House Speaker Mike Johnson attached the SAVE Act to the original funding bill in September, but it ultimately died in the House due to defections from the Republican Party citing financial concerns. “The state of Texas has a duty to prevent non-citizens from voting,” Roy told DCNF. “The Biden-Harris administration is trying to block it for the same reason they fought the SAVE Act (HR 8281): They want noncitizens, especially illegal aliens, to vote.”

The letter includes Lance Gooden, August Pflueger, Ronnie Jackson, Troy Neals, John Carter, Beth Van Duyne, Pete Sessions, Brian Babin, Keith Self, Wesley Hunt, and Pat Fallon. , co-signed by Texas Republican Rep. Morgan Luttrell.
