Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) expressed her approval of a recent Court of Appeals ruling, calling President Donald Trump’s $464 million decision “an overwhelming victory for justice, the rule of law, and the American people,” criticizing “…corrupt behavior.”
Stefanik, who has been active on social media, viewed this ruling as clear evidence of Trump’s vindication amid partisan legal challenges. She labeled the decision “outrageous and unprecedented,” linking it to a broader partisan attack against the president. This case, she argued, showcased the misuse of the judicial system by Democratic Attorney General Leticia James, claiming it represented a troubling abuse of power.
She elaborated on her legal battles and efforts against judicial misconduct. “Since the start, I’ve been fighting against this injustice. As a proud New Yorker and constitutional advocate, I filed an ethics complaint against Judge Arthur Ngoron, citing repeated breaches of judicial ethics, including bias and obstruction of justice.” She noted that she updated her complaint several times to underscore what she saw as serious misconduct that eroded public trust in the legal system.
Stefanik also criticized prosecutors, suggesting James should face disbarment for her perceived bias and inappropriate statements related to the case.
Looking forward, she framed the ruling as a win for all Americans, saying, “This ruling not only bolsters President Trump but also countless Americans affected by weaponized legal approaches from the far left. Leticia James and her associates must be held responsible for their corrupt actions.”
She wrapped up by tying Trump’s triumph to the protection of the American system: “President Trump always prioritizes America, and the people stand with him. We cannot let Democrats dismantle our Constitutional Republic.”
In response to the ruling, President Trump called it a “complete victory,” referring to James’ case as a “sham” and pointing to the unanimous decision: “The Court of Appeals stated – loud and clear!”
Donald Trump Jr. celebrated the decision as a “massive victory,” noting that the New York Court of Appeals had overturned a significant civil fraud ruling against his father, describing the situation as “witch hunts, election interference, and a complete miscarriage of justice… even the left-leaning NY Court of Appeals disagrees!”
The original case, which alleged that Trump exaggerated his wealth in financial statements, came with a penalty exceeding $500 million with interest. However, the five-judge appellate panel deemed this ruling unconstitutional under the Eighth Amendment’s excessive fines clause. Attorney General James might consider other legal avenues, but this decision presents a notable setback for her high-profile prosecution.
For Stefanik, this ruling highlights her ongoing criticism of New York’s judicial practices and her commitment to holding prosecutors and judges accountable for their partisan actions.
