Expectant father awakens from coma to hold partner responsible for accident before passing away.

A young father from Florida, Daniel Waterman, who fell into a coma following a serious car crash, has awakened and accused his girlfriend of purposefully causing the accident, as reported by authorities.

Waterman, originally from New York, alleged that Lega Manby, who was driving during a heated argument on Super Bowl night last February, declared, “I don’t care what happens, it’s my own fault,” according to court documents detailing the incident.

The accident occurred while Manby, 24, drove with Waterman, 22, as a passenger. Their vehicle crashed into a tree, resulting in severe injuries for Waterman, which led to him being placed in a coma, his mother mentioned.

By May, Waterman had made enough of a recovery to communicate with investigators using a whiteboard, which led to allegations against his girlfriend regarding the crash, based on an arrest affidavit.

The couple’s fight reportedly started when Manby found out she was pregnant and received an upsetting text from another woman in New York, as stated in the complaint.

Waterman’s mother, Heather, noted that, although her son supported the Chiefs, he was just chatting with a friend who was an Eagles fan. The two teams were rivals at the Super Bowl.

Manby allegedly began driving erratically because of the argument and eventually crashed their car into a tree.

Though she survived the wreck and her fetus was unharmed, Manby later gave birth. However, Waterman did not remember the events leading up to the accident.

Waterman continued to improve and was moved to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse in July for further recovery. Unfortunately, he passed away from pneumonia on October 8, as reported.

“He was resilient,” Heather Waterman shared. “From the beginning, he never gave up.”

Initially, Manby faced charges for reckless driving and aggravated assault. Following Waterman’s death, she was charged with vehicular homicide, according to police reports.

Now, Waterman’s family is concentrating on securing custody of his children. Heather has committed to a legal battle, aiming to establish that Waterman was the father and to bring their child back to New York.

“We will do everything necessary to have her with us,” she expressed. “He wanted to raise her with his family in New York.”
