Expert says Iran's nuclear program has ended after U.S. strikes

US Strikes Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

Leading experts on Iran’s nuclear program believe that a recent US airstrike effectively dismantled the nation’s atomic capabilities. According to Jonathan Shanzer, the executive director of the Democracy Defense Foundation, the nuclear program has essentially been eradicated.

He stated, “There’s no more nuclear program. Israeli sources are confident in reporting that this chapter is over. The responsible party will have to remove the nuclear material from the Isfahan facility, but it seems like we’re nearing a conclusion.” In a speech, former President Trump echoed this sentiment, declaring that “Iran’s major nuclear enrichment facilities have completely disappeared.”

An official mentioned that Isfahan was considered a particularly challenging target, stating, “While everyone was focused on Fordow, Isfahan was actually more difficult to hit.” The operation involved US B-2 bombers, which executed the strikes.

A senior US official confirmed after the operation that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been informed in advance. The strikes are seen as creating strategic advantages in ongoing nuclear discussions with Iran.

Lisa Dafari, a foreign policy expert, warned that if Iran attempts to rebuild its nuclear program, it could face further action. “To ensure the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear capabilities, the US needs ongoing intelligence and surveillance,” she remarked.

Trump announced the strikes amidst ongoing airstrikes between Israel and Iran, asserting, “We successfully attacked three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. All planes have returned to base.” He commended the US military for their efforts, suggesting that no other army in the world could have accomplished this.

Sean Hannity from Fox News discussed the operational details, mentioning that the US utilized six bunker buster bombs during the strike on the Fordow facility, later increased to fourteen by US military officials. The operation indicates strong cooperation between the US and Israel, particularly in light of Israel’s reported killing of an Iranian commander linked to the nuclear program.

While some experts believe Iran’s nuclear ambitions may be on hold, they caution that the situation remains fluid. There are concerns that Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium and advanced centrifuges have not been fully addressed. The Fordow site itself had complex entry logistics, which could have been designed for significant weapon security.

As tensions persist, reports indicate the US plans to implement further measures to prevent Iran from restoring its nuclear capabilities, including possibly employing Tomahawk missiles launched from submarines in future operations.
