Explosion at Jewish School in Amsterdam

An explosion occurred at a Jewish school in Amsterdam, which the city’s mayor labeled a “deliberate attack on the Jewish community.” Mayor Femke Halsema reported that the blast took place overnight in a residential area in the southern part of the city, resulting in damage to the school but, fortunately, no injuries.

“This is a despicable act of aggression against the Jewish community,” Halsema stated. She expressed understanding for the fear and anger felt by the Jewish population in Amsterdam, highlighting the growing issue of anti-Semitism, which is simply unacceptable.

Authorities have secured CCTV footage showing an individual planting the explosive device near the Cheder Jewish school.

The recent incident follows an arson attack at a synagogue the previous day, prompting increased security measures at Jewish institutions in the area. Police have made arrests related to suspicious activity observed near another synagogue shortly thereafter, including three young men and a 17-year-old boy.

A “large-scale investigation into this serious incident” has been initiated by the police, who are also asking for any witnesses to come forward.

Justice Minister David van Weel echoed concerns about ongoing violence, stating, “Two nights in a row there have been dastardly attacks with explosives on Jewish buildings, first in Rotterdam and now in Amsterdam.”

The rise in tensions comes amid military operations by the US and Israel against Iran, affecting Jewish communities globally. In a related event, Ayman Mohammad Ghazali was involved in an incident at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Reports indicate that he and several family members were killed in a targeted Israeli military strike against Hezbollah in Lebanon, highlighting the complexities of ongoing geopolitical conflicts.
