Exposed Training for Coaches Aims to Prepare Teachers Against Conservative Parents, Portrays Republicans as a Racist Danger

NEA Training Materials Targeting Conservative Views

The National Education Association (NEA) is preparing to instruct teachers on how to combat Republican groups and parents who advocate against certain gender and racial ideologies in education. Leaked documents from an upcoming training event outline this agenda, suggesting that these opposing views could potentially “harm all of us.”

A handout for the NEA’s “Advancing LGBTQ+ Justice and Transgender Advocacy” training criticizes the use of what it describes as “racist dog whistles” and “transphobic metaphors” aimed at instilling fear and causing distress, according to the parent advocacy organization Defender Education. This material instructs teachers on how to embed progressive ideas, such as gender ideology and pronoun usage, into their classrooms.

Scheduled for December 2-6, the workshop intends to challenge “systems of privilege and oppression” faced by LGBTQ+ educators and students. It also aims to enhance skills for tackling implicit bias, microaggressions, and stereotypes.

The NEA claims that the right is capitalizing on misconceptions about transgender individuals and the absence of positive messages to drive anti-trans narratives, thereby deepening divides and obstructing progressive movements. In recent years, Republican legislators have leaned into anti-trans messaging alongside racially charged rhetoric to consolidate power.

The union further argues that a “moral panic” over transgender youth has been instigated by the Republican Party, utilizing metaphors that intertwine racism and transphobia. They also maintain that teachers have a “right” to provide a comprehensive curriculum.

Included in the documents are suggestions for terminology that teachers should use to promote positive attitudes toward gender and transgender individuals, along with a sample email for announcing gender transitions. The NEA encourages members to adopt terminology that normalizes an expansive understanding of gender and to introduce their own pronouns, thereby fostering a community mindset towards their perspectives.

The association also urges its members to identify and label individuals who undermine their values. They argue that some politicians enact laws that restrict freedoms based on race or gender identity, manipulating fears and divisions for political gain, all while jeopardizing the rights and respect due to everyone.

The NEA instructs participants to frame criticisms of male participation in women’s sports as misogyny, rather than mere support for women’s rights. Their proposed strategy links these criticisms to broader issues of equality in sports, aiming to shift the narrative from individual to collective perspectives.

The NEA did not provide comments when approached for feedback.
