California politicians have long criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
For instance, State Sen. Scott Wiener and Gov. Gavin Newsom sought to make ICE-related masks illegal.
Attorney General Rob Bonta, while lacking the legal authority to arrest ICE agents, has made threats in that direction.
Meanwhile, gubernatorial candidate Eric Swalwell is advocating to prohibit future employment of ICE agents in the state.
Virtually every Democrat running for Congress feels they must declare their intention to defund ICE.
These politicians assert, albeit inaccurately, that ICE mainly targets innocent individuals, which includes U.S. citizens and vulnerable families.
Take the latest “victims” of ICE actions: relatives of Iranian terror general Qassem Soleimani—his niece and grandniece.
The California Post reported the arrest of Hamid Soleimani Afshar, 47, and his daughter Salinasadat Hosseini, 25, on a Friday.
They both held “green cards,” meaning they were permanent residents who could eventually apply for U.S. citizenship.
The two entered the U.S. in 2015 during an era when President Barack Obama aimed to foster better relations with Iran.
Authorities contend that Afshar frequently traveled back to Iran and that his asylum application was based on false claims. Additionally, his daughter allegedly voiced support for the Iranian regime on social media, even praising attacks on U.S. soldiers.
Soleimani’s young relatives enjoyed a life of luxury, attending fancy events and showcasing extravagant outfits online.
There’s a certain irony here; in Soleimani’s Iran, such displays could land a woman behind bars.
Soleimani wasn’t just any general; he orchestrated Iran’s operations overseas, funding numerous terrorist groups to carry out attacks on Israel and other nations.
While his family basked in Los Angeles, Soleimani’s forces were on the move toward the U.S. embassy in Baghdad in late 2019.
It was during this time that President Donald Trump executed a targeted strike that eliminated Soleimani, a move celebrated in many parts of the Middle East but criticized by Democrats.
Despite a decline in Iran’s terrorist capabilities, they remain a threat, as evidenced by the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, aimed by Hamas—Soleimani’s principal project.
Meanwhile, his relatives continue to host lavish gatherings in the U.S.
This trend of living extravagantly in the West while being related to dictators or terrorists isn’t new.
Just recently, the California Post highlighted that the daughter of Ali Larijani, a notable Iranian figure killed by a targeted attack, was an assistant professor at Emory University.
Fortunately for American values, she lost her job and her legal status in the country after the story broke.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that Soleimani’s relatives will also lose their legal status.
The Post also noted the luxurious lifestyle of Soleimani’s family, which included a Tesla loaded with high-end items.
It’s certainly unusual to see the family of an avowed enemy of the U.S. supporting adversaries while enjoying life in California.
They likely assumed they were safe, living in a so-called “sanctuary.” But as Rubio rightly stated, a green card isn’t an unassailable right. Supporting enemies of the U.S. comes with consequences.
This situation underscores the importance of ICE. Without active enforcement of immigration laws, individuals with harmful intentions could continue to thrive in the country without accountability.
It feels fitting to say “thank you” in light of these developments.
