A witness to the assassination attempt on President Trump said he not only saw the shooter get into position, but that authorities were slow to respond even after he and other witnesses alerted authorities to the shooter’s location.
A man who said he was near the Trump rally where the former president was shot told a BBC reporter he saw the shooter as he approached the rally after hosting a party.
“You weren’t at the scene of the incident, but you were just outside. Tell us what you saw,” the BBC reporter urged witnesses.
Witnesses said they had been with friends after learning Trump was hosting a party and planned to walk across the field to hear him speak.
“Why isn’t there Secret Service on every roof here?”
“We were invisible [Trump]but we could hear him.” The witness saidWearing a Trump visor.
“We walked up, and Trump had been talking for about five to seven minutes when we noticed a man walking about 50 feet up the roof of the building next to us.”
“We were standing there, pointing at the man,” the witness continued, but was interrupted by a BBC reporter.
“Did he have a gun?”
“He had a rifle. We could clearly see he had a rifle, that’s right,” the witness said.
“He was on that roof!”
“The police were running around and we were like, ‘Hey, there’s a guy on the roof with a rifle!’ and they were like, ‘What? What?'”
“My next thought was, why is Trump still talking? Why don’t they take him off the stage? I stood there for two or three minutes pointing at him,” he claimed.
Witnesses explained that they believed they saw Secret Service agents using binoculars to try to locate the suspect, but judging by the orientation of nearby rooftops, they likely were unable to find him.
“The next moment, five gunshots rang out.”
The man said he was “100 percent” sure the shots came from a man on the roof.
“Why are there no Secret Service on this roof? This place isn’t that big!” he shouted.
“Did you see what happened to him?” the reporter asked about the suspect.
“Yeah, they blew his head off,” the witness replied. “The Secret Service blew his head off… definitely, 100 percent,” he added.
“[Secret Service] They crawled onto the roof, pointed their guns at him, and made sure he was dead. He was dead. That was the end of it.
“He was on the roof!”
Asked if he was familiar with firearms, the witness said “it looked like a rifle,” adding that the man appeared to be wearing brown clothing.
by Associated PressThe investigation is being treated by police as an attempted assassination, with the shooter and one victim reportedly dead.
NBC News The report said President Biden released a statement from Delaware in which he detailed his wishes for President Trump’s health.
“I’m glad to hear he’s safe and well. As we await more information, we are praying for him, his family and all those who were at the rally,” Biden said. “Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for evacuating him to safety. This kind of violence has no place in America, and we must come together as a country to condemn it.”
