On Thursday, F1 announced the locations for the sprint races in the 2025 season.
As in the 2024 season, there will be six F1 sprint races, five of which will be carried over from this season to the next.
But one change will see the F1 sprint format introduced to one of the sport’s most iconic circuits.
The first F1 sprint race of next season will be held at the Chinese Grand Prix. This season, the F1 sprint race was held because the grid returned to China for the first time since COVID-19. The grid will then participate in the F1 sprint format at the Miami Grand Prix, just like this season. Daniel Ricciardo had a great performance in both the F1 sprint race qualifying and the F1 sprint race main event at the Miami Grand Prix, starting from 4th place and finishing in 4th place.
However, the next F1 sprint race on the 2025 calendar will not be the Austrian Grand Prix, but the Belgian Grand Prix. Spa will host an F1 sprint race next year, followed by the United States Grand Prix, the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and the Qatar Grand Prix. These last three circuits will also host F1 sprint races this year.
“The Sprint has been a huge success for F1, allowing all fans to enjoy even more of the on-track action and racing – we see the evidence in the crowd data, fan attendance on Friday and from our promoters and partners,” F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said in the announcement. “As we prepare to celebrate our 75th anniversary in 2025, we will always honour our incredible history, but we must always look forward, innovate and improve to offer the best to our growing and diversifying fan base.”
“The Sprint is a great example of bringing a new element to our sport while respecting the championship. We’re grateful to the six venues that will host the Sprint in 2025 and look forward to great events throughout the season.”
