The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the Southwest Airlines plane that crashed into the ocean off the coast of Hawaii.
The crash occurred on April 11th on Southwest Airlines Flight 2766. Bloomberg reported Southwest Airlines sent a memo to its pilots about the incident.
According to Bloomberg, the plane was descending at more than 4,000 feet per minute, and the crew landed the plane to avoid hitting the water. No one was injured, and the plane returned to its departure point at Honolulu airport.
The plane descended from an altitude of about 1,000 feet to 400 feet above the sea in just a few seconds, according to Bloomberg.
“The FAA is investigating this incident, which occurred on April 11th,” the FAA said in a statement to The Hill.
The Hill has reached out to Southwest Airlines for comment. CNN reported: The company said nothing is more important than safety.
“Through our robust safety management system, this incident was appropriately addressed and we are always committed to continuous improvement,” the company said.
The flight was an island-hopping flight from Honolulu to Lihue Airport on the island of Kauai, but Bloomberg reported that the pilot aborted the landing due to bad weather and the plane returned to Honolulu.
