Residents of Camp Lejeune Raise Concerns Over Water Contamination

Camp Lejeune, a Marine Corps Base in North Carolina, has been home to Virginia Robinson for 25 years. During this time, she has faced serious health challenges, yet the government has allegedly kept crucial health information from the residents.

“I was battling three types of cancer at once,” Robinson shared in a recent discussion. It wasn’t just her. Many families, including Robinson’s, have faced devastating health issues, such as breast cancer, leukemia, and colon cancer—some battling multiple diagnoses simultaneously.

Tragedy struck as Robinson lost her husband in 2014. Soon after, her daughter passed away, while her father developed Parkinson’s disease. To add to the heartbreak, another daughter was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor and died young from bladder cancer. They all, she claims, were exposed to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune.

“What was the actual level of toxins in the water? Was it just trace amounts, or were there periods with heavy contamination?” she wonders aloud. “There were videos of dumping. My brother has looked into this quite a bit and brought it to my attention.”

Robinson is frustrated with the government’s denial regarding the health ramifications of the water pollution. “They caused suffering—yours and mine, along with the deaths. It’s been a nightmare for many because of the negligence shown to millions of Americans,” she stated. “Is there even a fair system of justice in this country?”
