Falcons appoint Matt Ryan as their football president

Matt Ryan Takes on New Role with Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have made a significant move by bringing former quarterback Matt Ryan into their front office. Announced on Saturday, Ryan, who spent most of his illustrious NFL career with the Falcons, will assume the role of president for the team. Having been drafted No. 3 overall in 2008, Ryan is well-known for his impressive records, including passing yards, touchdowns, and wins, and he officially starts his new position immediately at the age of 40.

In this new capacity, Ryan will report directly to team owner Arthur Blank and collaborate with president and CEO Greg Beadles to align the football and business departments of the organization.

Arthur Blank expressed his confidence in Ryan, highlighting his leadership and game knowledge. He emphasized that Ryan’s experience — from his playing days to his recent time as a CBS analyst — would greatly benefit the team. The goal is to strengthen both the organization and its relationship with fans, striving for a championship-level team.

Interestingly, the Falcons recently parted ways with head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot, which makes Ryan’s role even more pivotal as he helps shape the future of the franchise. Ryan will be directly involved in searching for both a new head coach and general manager, marking a critical phase for the team.

Ryan shared his gratitude for being given another opportunity by Blank, declaring his ongoing commitment to the Falcons. He reflected on his time at CBS Sports, appreciating the friendships and support he gained there but emphasizing his deep-rooted connection to the Falcons and Atlanta as he steps into this new chapter.

Drafted from Boston College, Ryan’s legacy with the Falcons includes numerous franchise records such as passing yards (59,735) and passing touchdowns (367), solidifying his status as one of the greatest players in team history.

It’ll be interesting to see how Ryan’s new role unfolds, especially in a period of transition for the Falcons. His insight from both player and analyst perspectives might just lead the team into a revitalized era.
