Falcons' James Pearce Jr. taken into custody

James Pierce Jr., a rising star with the Atlanta Falcons, was arrested on Saturday near Miami after allegedly fleeing from police and crashing his car. This incident reportedly stemmed from a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, who plays in the WNBA.

Authorities say that Doral police were dispatched to investigate a domestic disturbance involving a man and a woman. After the arrest, Pierce was taken to the Turner Guilford Correctional Center.

The 22-year-old now faces several charges, including two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, and evading police by using lights and sirens.

The Falcons have acknowledged the situation, stating they are in the process of gathering more information, though they have not commented on any specific legal matters at this point.

Pierce was selected by Atlanta as the 26th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, coming from the University of Tennessee. During his rookie season, he made quite an impact, featuring in 17 games, recording 10.5 sacks and 26 total tackles.

He had initially been a contender for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, finishing third in the voting behind Cleveland Browns’ Carson Schwesinger and Nick Emanwoli from the Seattle Seahawks. The team’s recent developments cast a shadow over his promising career, and it’s unclear how this incident will affect him moving forward.
