Martin Katz, a famous Hollywood jeweler who attracts stars, was the victim of a home invasion in which about $2.5 million worth of merchandise was stolen after police called in a South American burglary ring.
According to reports, the jeweler's home was broken into shortly after 10:30pm on Tuesday, and he returned home to find his window smashed. TMZ.
Katz told police that many luxury bags were missing, some of which were sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars each.
Apparently, Katz was notified of the break-in by an alarm company.
However, authorities were able to recover some of the expensive bags because Katz had hidden tracking tags inside them. Authorities tracked the tag to a location in downtown Los Angeles, TMZ added.
In addition to recovering the bags, several men were arrested and charged with theft. Police also identified the suspects as members of a “South American” robbery ring. The robbers, who do not live in the United States, reportedly flew into the country to carry out the robbery, where they then fenced off the goods and returned home.
