Famed NYC office tower lures Michelin-starred chef amid Midtown food boom

The menus of three new restaurants slated to open in Manhattan’s former Sony Building will feature high-end sushi, Korean steaks and American cuisine, the Post reported.

The distinctive restaurant at 550 Madison Avenue, home to Hermès, Chubb and Corsair Capital, was unveiled to the public for the first time Monday by Simon Kim’s Gracious Hospitality Group.

As the Post first reported, Kim last year signed a lease for a “multifaceted” 15,000 square foot restaurant space in Midtown Tower, but it remains unclear what type of restaurant it will be. It remained a secret.

This “upscale” sushi restaurant will be helmed by renowned Japanese chef Masahiro Yoshitake, who has earned multiple Michelin stars in Tokyo and Hong Kong. Located on the mezzanine floor.

Kim’s wildly popular COTE, which combines Korean barbecue and American steakhouse styles, is opening its second New York location in the basement of the Tower. Meanwhile, the first floor will house a “dining and bar concept” that will offer a wide range of appeal throughout the day.

These restaurants will offer “mobile, immersive, never-before-seen dining experiences,” and “out-of-the-box approaches will set the stage for the future of hospitality,” Kim said. he told the Post.

Entrance to all three venues is through the tower’s beautiful block-long public arcade between East 55th Street.th and east 56th street.

David Rockwell’s Rockwell Group led the design of the tower, which Olayan America converted into a prime office location that charges tenants up to $200 per square foot.

But due to the complexity of planning and construction, Kim said he will have to wait until late next year to get his first taste.

The tower has signed on to celebrity chefs, including Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Four Twenty-Five at 425 Park Avenue and Daniel Boulud’s Le Pavillon at One Vanderbilt, to burnish its image and attract high-paying tenants. It is one of many towers.

Last year, 550 Madison added more than 303,500 square feet of new rentals to the C-Note club, according to CBRE.

The most recent lease was for 70,000 square feet for BDT & MSD Partners in December. Private investment firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice broke ground on the 144,000-square-foot site last June.

Currently, the tower is between 80% and 90% leased.
