Three men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks that killed 2,976 innocent people have reached plea deals with US prosecutors.

The Office of Military Commissions (OMC) said in a statement on Wednesday that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other co-conspirators, Walid Mohammed Saleh Mubarak bin Attash and Mustafa Ahmed Adam Al Hawsawi, pleaded guilty to plotting the largest terror attack on US soil.
The defendants reportedly pleaded guilty in exchange for life in prison instead of the death sentences originally planned.
“In exchange for eliminating the possibility of the death penalty, the three defendants have agreed to plead guilty to all charges against them, including the murder of the 2,976 individuals detailed in the indictment,” said the letter, signed by OMC’s lead prosecutor, Maj. Gen. Aaron C. Lew.
Needless to say, the victim’s family was not pleased with the news of the plea deal.

“I am very disappointed. We have been waiting patiently for a long time. I wanted the death penalty. The government has let us down,” he said.
Retired police officer Jim Smith said he felt “kicked” when he heard the news. His wife, Moira Smith, was the only female police officer killed on 9/11.
“Prosecutors and families have waited 23 years for their day in court to have a record of what these animals did to our loved ones, and they have robbed us of that opportunity,” he said. “They committed the worst crime in the history of our country and deserve the harshest punishment.”
The three were first jointly indicted in 2008 and then again in 2012 in connection with the tragedy. Since being detained in the United States, they have served their time at Guantanamo Bay detention center, a U.S. military prison.
In 2008, Mohammed was indicted on a series of charges, including conspiracy, murder in violation of the laws of war, attacking a civilian object, intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, attacking a civilian, destruction of property in violation of the laws of war, terrorism, and material support to terrorism.
Mohammed is said to have been the first to propose the September 11 attacks.NumberHe played a major role in planning subsequent terrorist attacks, including training some of the plane hijackers who killed the late Osama bin Laden in the 2001 terrorist attack.
Bin Attash is said to have trained terrorist hijackers in martial arts and was also responsible for researching airline timetables.
Additionally, Al-Hawsawi helped the hijackers with “financial and travel arrangements,” contributing to the terrorist attacks.
They are scheduled to be sentenced at Guantanamo Bay on August 5.Number.
