The family of Mohamed Sabri Soliman, who is accused of launching a burnt object at a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, is currently being held after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) detained them following his deportation.
Soliman faces serious charges, including attempted murder and assault, after reportedly harming numerous individuals with homemade flamethrowers and Molotov cocktails. A total of 12 attendees, aged between 52 and 88, needed medical attention for various burns, some of which were quite severe. According to reports, Soliman was in the country illegally after overstaying his tourist visa.
Soliman entered the U.S. in August 2022 at LAX on a tourist visa, which expired in February 2023. Afterward, he left the U.S. as mandated by law, making his status unlawful.
Interestingly, despite the expiration of his visa, at one point during the Biden administration, he was granted a work permit to engage in employment within the U.S. in March 2023, which has also since expired.
Reports suggest Soliman attempted to enter the U.S. two decades ago but was denied a visa at that time. He is now being held in Colorado as prosecutors seek a substantial cash bond of $10 million.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Christa Noem announced on Tuesday that Soliman’s wife and five children are also in custody.
“We’re looking into how much his family was aware of this dreadful attack, whether they had any knowledge of it, and if they potentially supported it,” Noem shared on social media.
Following this, the White House indicated on the same platform that the family is facing deportation.
According to police documents, it has been reported that Soliman “never communicated with his wife or family” about his actions and simply left a message in a desk drawer for them. Notably, his daughter recently received a scholarship from a local newspaper in Colorado Springs.
In her scholarship application, she reflected, “Moving to America has transformed me. I’ve learned to work effectively under pressure and adapt quickly. Above all, I value my family’s unwavering support.”
