Support for Mother Accused of Child’s Death
Corie Walsh, a mother who has been charged with the death of her 2-year-old son, is reportedly receiving strong backing from her family. Her attorney claims that this tragic incident may be linked to a severe mental health crisis similar to what Lindsay Clancy experienced.
Andrea Lyon, Walsh’s attorney who has previously defended Casey Anthony, argues that Walsh was undergoing a psychotic episode when her son, Barrett, was found hanging in their home in Illinois last month.
“We’re committed to fully understanding her situation and the nature of her psychosis,” Lyon mentioned outside a Frankfort courthouse during a recent pre-trial hearing.
“This psychosis isn’t something someone chooses. The death of little Barrett—his nickname was Little Bear—is truly unfathomable,” she noted.
Lyon emphasized that they are preparing for a defense, which involves collecting all relevant information available.
She assured that Walsh’s family stands firmly behind her.
Corie Walsh, now 40, faces first-degree murder charges after her older children discovered her in the bathtub, which was filled with blood, following a reported self-harm incident, according to prosecutors.
The children sought help from a neighbor, who then found Barrett with a rope around his neck in the basement. Despite efforts to revive him, it was too late; he was declared dead at the scene.
A neighbor attempted CPR, but unfortunately, Barrett was unresponsive and cold.
Interestingly, another infant, just eight months old, was found unharmed in the home.
Walsh had recently become very interested in the case of Lindsay Clancy, who was accused of murdering her three children in Massachusetts and attributed her actions to postpartum psychosis. Clancy also tried to take her own life, resulting in severe injuries.
Clancy’s trial, which captivated public attention, ended in a mistrial after jury disagreements.
Walsh, who was hospitalized post-incident, reportedly told authorities she believed her son was the “devil” or the “anti-Christ,” court documents reveal. She also supposedly confessed to contemplating poisoning her husband.
Walsh, maintaining her innocence, is set to appear in court again on November 23.
