An investigation is intensifying in Southern California regarding a man reported missing, with police expressing serious concerns about his situation. Naiping Hou, a 74-year-old from Rancho Cucamonga, was last seen on May 4, 2025, and his family has raised alarms about his disappearance.
Recently, it was uncovered that numerous fraudulent activities occurred in Hou’s bank account around the time he went missing. Officials suspect identity fraud as his cell phone appears to be used by unknown individuals to communicate with his family without his knowledge.
His family is particularly worried due to connections they believe exist between Hou’s disappearance and significant financial transactions involving cryptocurrency. They’ve even offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to his safe return. “I miss him,” said his son, Wen Hou, adding that his father has always been a guiding figure in his life.
Wen also noted that his father was quite successful in the crypto market, having contributed significantly to various causes, including $1.1 million for research. He suspects someone might have stolen his father’s identity, siphoning off over $1 million from his bank accounts. There’s this eerie feeling that someone is impersonating him, communicating with the family through texts to maintain the façade.
This series of odd occurrences seemed to start earlier this year when Hou was dealing with a home renovation due to a leak. Shortly after the repairs were completed in March, he went on a fishing trip, where everything seemed normal until things took a strange turn. “The place was spotless afterward—no people, no cars, nothing left behind,” Wen recalled.
Authorities are looking for information about a silver Toyota Yaris that might be related to Hou’s case. There was significant fraudulent activity detected, leading to deep concerns from law enforcement about Hou’s well-being. “We are committed to finding him and ensuring his safe return,” said a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.
Naiping Hou is described as approximately 5’7″ tall, around 170 pounds, with dark hair and dark eyes. He has a tattoo of a mother figure on his upper left shoulder. Anyone who has seen him or has information is urged to contact Detective Vanays Kezada at the Sheriff’s Department.
