Vance booed at the Kennedy Center concert
Vice President JD Vance faced a chorus of boos while attending a concert at the Kennedy Center this past Thursday.
The Kennedy Center is planning to enhance its programming to be more family-friendly, notably by incorporating more faith-based content that has often been overlooked.
As part of this initiative, the Center will host a free family screening of the new animated film, “The King of Kings,” from Angel Studios. This film presents the life of Jesus through the eyes of a boy who realizes the movie’s transformative impact.
This screening, set for Sunday, June 1, signifies a shift toward offering more Christian-themed content at the Kennedy Center. Notably, the only recent production categorized as “Christian” was the 2022 rendition of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” a musical from the 1970s, which faced criticism concerning the portrayal of Pastor Billy Graham.
According to Angel Studios, “The King of Kings” made $19.3 million during its opening weekend.
Ambassador Richard Grenell, president of the Kennedy Center, expressed his enthusiasm saying, “When I saw the King of Kings ad campaign, I knew right away that I needed to come to the Kennedy Center. I was fortunate enough to join a panel with the CEO of Angel Studios, where I got to discuss more family-friendly programming in the future.”
The screening of “The King of Kings” marks the first show centered on Jesus at the Kennedy Center since “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Typically, the venue has hosted classical performances alongside gospel music from renowned composers like Mozart and Beethoven.
“The King of Kings has become the most successful faith-based animated film in history,” noted David Fisher from Angel Studios. “However, its greatest triumph lies in the minds it has influenced. Screening at the Kennedy Center showcases how far the truth and light can travel.”
The film, which debuted last month, continues to gain traction at the box office. Angel Studios, a crowdfunded streaming service and film studio, focuses on producing pro-Christian content and supporting independent creators.
