Relatives of a 96-year-old woman allegedly murdered by a 26-year-old man have remembered their “beloved mother.”
Emma Finch’s body was discovered by firefighters after a fire broke out at her home on a quiet road in the village of Rhys, Hampshire.
In a statement released through Hampshire Police, her family said: “The passing of our beloved mother aged 96 has left a huge void in our lives, not least due to the circumstances surrounding her untimely passing.
“As a family we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the emergency services who attended my mother’s home on Friday and to the wider team who are currently investigating her death.
“The professionalism shown by all services involved and the dignity shown to our mother has brought us great comfort during this very difficult time and we are very grateful. We request privacy at this time as we come to terms with our loss. Rest in Peace Mom X.”
Joshua Powell, 26, from Lindford, Hampshire, who has been charged with murder, appeared before magistrates in Portsmouth on Thursday.
Powell spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address before being remanded in custody to appear in Portsmouth court on Friday.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire on Mill Road, Lys, at 4.29am last Friday. Police were alerted and quickly arrived at the scene. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that Finch’s body had been found at the scene.
